“What Catches God’s Eye?”

This overly commercialized culture in which we live is designed to catch the consumer’s eye. Be it billboards or mannequins, commercials or pitchmen – everything is designed to catch our eye.  Every time I walk through the Columbia Mall my eyes grow weary from all of the visual stimuli.  Without question, advertisers and marketers have done their research – they know how to catch our eye with their products. So this got me to thinking about God – What “catches” His eye.  I was reminded of a couple of places in the Bible like 2 Chronicles 16:9 where God says, “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him.”  So a blameless heart catches God’s eye. I also thought of the story of Zacchaeus in Luke 19:1-10.  You remember that story of the “wee little man” who climbed a tree in order to see Jesus in a passing parade.  When Jesus passed by the tree Zacchaeus had climbed, the “wee little man” caught Jesus’ eye. So what was it about Zacchaeus that caught God’s eye?  That’s what we’re going to look into this coming Sunday. I hope you’ll read Zacchaeus’ story again before you head to church.  And if you’re really brave, teach that little Sunday School song about Zacchaeus to your kids on the way to church. See you Sunday, pastor jamie
