“Missio Dei”

Missio Dei is a Latin term that translates “The Mission of God” or “The Sending God.” If someone were to approach you on the street and ask, “So what is the mission of God?’  How would you answer them?  Would you be able to articulate the essence of God’s mission in this world? God is a sending God – He sent His Son, He sent the Holy Spirit and, now, He has sent the church to be His instrument in helping to realize His mission. In preparation for Sunday, consider the words Jesus spoke regarding His mission as recorded in Luke 4:18-19.

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.

After considering what the Bible has to say about the Mission of God, we’ll turn our attention to four marks of a missional church.  At the end of my message, the Elders and I will introduce the missionary families our church plans to support in 2014.  We’re looking forward to sharing this part of our ministry vision with all of you!

Please join me as I pray for sunshine and temperatures in the 70’s for Sunday.  Okay, that might be a bit bold – how about the 30’s at this point! pastor jamie
