“Enemies of the Heart”

How are things with your heart?  I didn’t ask, “How are things with your classes or your job?”  I didn’t ask about your kids, your family, your finances, or your quiet time – I asked about your heart.  “How are things with your heart?” I can be very good at avoiding uncomfortable heart questions.  I’ve learned to quickly shrug them off by changing the subject.  But every time I ignore these questions, I usually end up making my heart problems worse. Spiritual heart damage happens when the hurts and disappointments in our lives are never resolved.  In our upcoming series, “Enemies of the Heart,” we’re going to focus on four primary enemies of the heart – guilt, anger, jealousy and greed.  If we allow these “enemies” a home in our hearts they will eventually “go public.”  As Jesus said, what’s in our hearts (good and bad) will eventually seep into everything we do and say.  Further, it will influence all of our relationships. During this series we’ll also focus on God’s proven remedies for heart damage.  I believe God wants to perform corrective, life-giving surgery on all of us.  Scary?  Yeah, I know!  But, when it’s needed it’s the best course of action. I hope you’ll take the time to read and consider these two Scriptures before Sunday:

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? (Jeremiah 17:9)

Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. (Proverbs 4:23)

Don’t forget about our Sunday morning community groups that start this Sunday before church – breakfast starts at 8:30 AM and groups begin at 9:00 AM.

Expectantly, pastor Jamie
