I Want To Know Christ

Philippians 3:10 “I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death…”
“I want to know Christ…”
Even as someone who has been leading worship for more than 25 years, I readily confess I don’t know everything. During a quiet time this summer, I found myself thanking God for bringing greater revelation in my life about who He is and what it means to worship Him. In an instant, I heard a small voice say, “Revelation comes through relationship”.
“I want to know Christ…”
I know a lot of the people at my church, but sadly, I don’t know everyone. I know faces…well…most. But being on the platform every Sunday makes it difficult to get around to everyone. And while I belong to this “family of God” with whom I worship, I realize I have brothers and sisters in Christ I really don’t know, because I have not taken time to introduce myself, talk to them, invite them to my home and spend time in close fellowship with them.
Unfortunately, for many of us in the Body of Christ, the same can be said about our relationship with God. We see Him every Sunday morning, and we worship Him while we’re with everyone else. But the truth is, outside of Sunday morning, we don’t talk to Him, we haven’t invited Him into our homes and we don’t spend time in close fellowship with Him. We don’t really know Him.
“I want to know Christ…”
I find the more time I spend with other Believers, the more I realize the necessity of knowing him or her! Each relationship I have is one that enriches my life, encourages my walk and enhances the Kingdom of God. I am strengthened by the friendships I have with other Christians, as each reveals who he or she is as a follower of Christ!
In the same way, the more time I spend with my Father, the more I realize the necessity of knowing Him! His Word enriches my life. His Spirit encourages me as I walk in faith. And He leads me in ways that enhance His Kingdom as I strive to be a light and example to others.
Knowing Him can only happen when I take time to allow relationship to grow between the two of us. Being willing to move beyond the Sunday morning experience and make fellowship with God an everyday occurrence brings me closer to Him as He speaks to me Through prayer, reading the Word, singing songs of praise and worship, and then quietly listening for His voice. It is there that God is able to reveal who He is more and more so that I can know Him, become familiar with Him, feel Him. As I press in closer to Him, He presses in closer to me.
Want revelation to occur in your life? Seek to have a closer relationship with the Father. Then be ready to be amazed at all He wants to share with you.
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. 2 Corinthians 13:14
