How to Know Your Faith is Real

If someone asked, “How can I know if my faith is real?” What would you tell them? Could you help them with that question? When most people ask that question, they’re wondering if they’re really saved or not.

When trying to determine if one’s faith is real, two words must be considered. The first is the word “assurance,” which means confidence or certainty, and the second word is “evidence,” which refers to an available body of facts that determine if something is valid or true. Considering these two words prompts us to ask two crucial questions. The first, “Am I assured in my salvation?” The second, “Does my life provide evidence of my salvation?”

I hope you plan to be at church this Sunday as we consider what God’s Word has to say about the certainty of our salvation and the evidence that is to accompany it. In preparation for the morning message, I hope you’ll prayerfully consider the following passages.

And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. ¹² Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. ¹³ I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life. (1 John 5:11-13)

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12)

Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is among you; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith. (2 Corinthians 13:5)
