“The Holiness of God”

Consider for a moment the sun and a light bulb.  If held at the same distance, the sun is estimated to put out 4 trillion trillion (4 with 24 zeros after it!) times more power (roughly think “heat”) than a 100-watt light bulb.  There is hot, and then there is HOT.  The sun is necessary for life.  However, it is dangerous to get too close to it.

Similarly, we see in the Scriptures that there is holy, and then there is God.  He is the ultimate in holy.  He defines holy.  As with the sun, God is necessary for our life both now and for eternity.  However, because of His uniquely holy nature, there were warnings in the Old Testament about haphazardly approaching God, which most often resulted in death.  It was a dangerous and fearful thing to approach God – not because He is angry or bad, but because He is so overwhelmingly good and pure.

In 1 Peter 1:15-16, Peter reminds us of God’s command from the Old Testament book of Leviticus that we are to be holy because He is holy.  But what does it mean when we say that God is holy? How are you and I made holy so that we can not only approach but boldly approach our Heavenly Father without the fear of death we find in the Old Testament?

I hope that you will join us as we seek to learn more about God’s holiness and how it is possible to grow in a deeper relationship with our Holy Heavenly Father.

Pursuing Him with you,

Tiger
