“I Will Give You Rest”

As I mentioned in last week’s message, there are seven “I will” statements of Jesus in the Gospels. Last week we considered what Jesus meant when He said, “I will come and get you.” This promise reminds us to keep an eternal perspective when our hearts are troubled by the cares and concerns of this broken world.

The “I will” statement of Jesus we’ll look at this coming Sunday is, “I will give you rest.”

This promise is found in Matthew 11:28: Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

Read that verse several times. As you do, ask the Holy Spirit to emphasize certain words to you. Then join me in praying a simple, closing prayer.

Father,

Thank You for these words of Jesus. Thank You that He speaks them to me and that He invites me to come to Him. Thank You for His promise of rest. Holy Spirit, help me come to Jesus and to receive the rest He offers me today. I also pray for those in my life who are carrying burdens much greater than mine. For the promise of Your rest, I give You thanks.

In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
