Living the Good Life”
What does it mean to live the good life? Ask the people of this world and you’ll get all kinds of answers. Some will say the good life is about simplicity or self-sufficiency. Others will associate the good life with money, fame, and power. To many, the good life occurs when they join the “Jet Set” or become a “High Roller.”
I’ve learned it’s never smart to allow the world to answer important questions. Instead, it’s best to go to Scripture to see what God has to say on the subject. To do that, I can’t think of a better passage to consider than Psalm 128.
How joyful are those who fear the Lord—all who follow his ways! 2 You will enjoy the fruit of your labor. How joyful and prosperous you will be! 3 Your wife will be like a fruitful grapevine, flourishing within your home. Your children will be like vigorous young olive trees as they sit around your table. 4 That is the Lord’s blessing for those who fear him. 5 May the Lord continually bless you from Zion. May you see Jerusalem prosper as long as you live. 6 May you live to enjoy your grandchildren. May Israel have peace!
Psalm 128 obviously connects the good life with a blessed or joyous life. Other translations would say “happy life.” If you want to live the good life, according to Psalm 128, you need the blessing of God.
On Sunday, Father’s Day, we’re going to discover what the blessing of God is, the secret to walking in His blessing, and the scope of His blessing.
It’s going to be a great morning as we study Psalm 128, as we worship God, and as we celebrate our dads.
With growing anticipation,
