Real Rest

It actually happens quite often as a pastor.  A topic comes up on the preaching schedule and the thought crosses my mind, “I’m not sure I’m the best person to speak on this topic.”  Then God begins to put passages of Scripture in front of me and He does a work in me and creates an opportunity for me to share it with you on the following Sunday.  This is one of those weeks and one of those topics.

Why do we struggle with the issue of rest here in the Western World?  I’m not talking about a day off from work so that you can spend it working to catch up on all the other things you didn’t get done throughout the course of the week.  I’m talking about REAL REST!!  The disconnecting from the real world for a moment to stop and reflect on the glory and majesty of God.

According to a 2018 study done by the U.S. Travel Association, there were 768 million vacation days that were unused in 2018 and the trends tell us that number has increased over the last few years.  The CEO of U.S. Travel Association said, “When I see how many vacation days went unused, I don’t just see a number – I see 768 million missed opportunities to recharge, experience something new and connect with family and friends.”

Vacation days are a good start, but there is so much more to REAL REST.  In fact, REAL REST is commanded of us in the Ten Commandments, and yet we often overlook it or brush it off.  So what does God ask of us when it comes to the issue of finding a REAL REST?  We will dig into that question together and find the answers this coming Sunday.  I hope you can join us for what I believe will be a powerful, potentially life-changing Sunday.

Blessings,

Pastor Brandon
