“Preparing to be Used by God”

It’s hard to believe but Easter is just a little over 40 days away.

Since last fall, I’ve had the sense God wants to use the forty days leading up to Easter in a powerful way in the lives of those who call FFC their church home. I’m not fully sure what that means but I believe it has to do with a decision on our part to use the coming forty days as a time of preparation. There are many stories in the Bible about those who got serious about preparing themselves for God’s use. They engaged their wills toward the things of God, they chose to grow in their faith, they pursued obedience to God’s Word, and they became single-minded in their desires to please God above all else.

On Sunday, we’ll study a story from 2 Kings 3 in which some desperate people choose to obediently prepare themselves for God’s promised blessing and His use. Here’s a portion of that wonderful story.

[Elijah] said, “This is what the Lord says, ‘Make this valley full of ditches.’ 17 For the Lord says, ‘You will not see wind or rain. But that valley will be filled with water so that you and your cattle and your animals will drink.’ 18 This is only a small thing in the eyes of the Lord. He will give you the Moabites also. 19 Then you will destroy every strong city and cut down every good tree. You will close all the wells of water, and destroy every good piece of land with stones.” (2 Kings 3:16-19)

I’m so excited about the 40 days leading up to Resurrection Sunday (April 17th). I hope you can be at church on Sunday as we will have the chance to respond to a unique corporate invitation to prepare ourselves for God’s use! Please join me in praying for our Sunday gathering, for Derek Volkmann and our worship team, for our celebration of the Lord’s Supper, and for the guests who will join us for the first time.

Inspired already,
