“Flight or Fight?”

Most everyone I know, loves a good story about an underdog who comes from behind to win.

That’s probably why movies based on that theme do so well at the box office. I mean, who can forget Rudy, Facing the Giants, or Miracle on Ice.

On Sunday, we’re going to consider a very familiar story from the Old Testament – David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17). Most of us read this story as another underdog story, but is it, really? Personally, I don’t think so.

I see it as a story in which David, a follower of God like you and me, defeated the giant before him with practical wisdom and supernatural power. This story should inspire all of us, when facing our own giants, that we, too, can experience victory!.

I hope you’ll read David’s story again before you get to church on Sunday. Ultimately, when facing giants, it comes down to one decision: will we turn and take FLIGHT, or will we stand our ground and FIGHT?
