“How to Know Your Faith is Real” (Part 2)
When people ask, “How can I know if my faith is real?” they’re usually asking, “How can I know I’m saved?”
When trying to determine if one’s faith is real or not, two words must be considered. The first is the word “assurance,” which means confidence or certainty, and the second word is “evidence,” which refers to an available body of facts that determine if something is valid or true. These two words prompt two crucial questions. First, “Am I assured that when I die I will go to heaven?” The second, “Does my life provide evidence of my salvation?”
Lots of people struggle with the question, “Am I truly saved?” This struggle, in many cases, occurs because people are looking in the wrong places for the assurance of salvation. Assurance of salvation comes from one place alone – the objective, unchanging truth of God’s Word.
Once we are living in the assurance of our salvation, we need to move on to the next question: Does my life provide evidence of my salvation? This coming Sunday, we’ll consider three more realities that serve as evidence of real faith. The three we’ll consider include faith that pursues Christian community, faith that perseveres in times of trial, and faith that prevails in the end times.
It’s going to be a great day at FFC this coming Sunday, I hope you’re able to join us!
