Sermon Synopsis

In this second message of Pastor Jamie’s series, “Awakening for Today’s Family,” he talks about selfishness. Too many in our culture, and even some in the church, believe and act as though life is all about them. Selfishness and self-centered thinking abound in because such is endemic to the fallen, human condition. This message underscores the hope that is ours as the Holy Spirit is invited and allowed a place in our families where He can transform the lives of fathers, mothers and children so homes are set free from the chaos and disorder selfishness always leaves in its wake.

James 3:16

16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.

Ephesians 1:13–14

13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

Romans 12:3

For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.

Matthew 16:24

24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

Philippians 2:1–2

2:1 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.
