Friday Focus — July 24, 2026

There was a news story several years ago that told of two men driving in Southern California.  One man cut off the other man in the parking lot of a local shopping center.  The two hot-headed men, in a fit of rage, sped out of the parking lot, one chasing the other.  In all of their anger, they were driving in an incredibly reckless manner - dodging and weaving in and out of traffic, paying no attention to traffic lights, other vehicles, or innocent bystanders on the streets and sidewalks.  In a life-changing moment, the driver in the rear of the chase forced the front car to careen out of control.  The driver of the front car frantically tried to regain control, but in the process, an innocent mother and her little girl on a nearby sidewalk were struck by the out-of-control car.  In a moment of anger that perhaps in a sick and twisted way, seemed justified at the time to these men, reshaped a family's entire life.

This tragedy reminds us that the risks we take in anger can leave a wake of unfathomable consequences.  Spiritually speaking, the risks we take in our anger can have heartbreaking consequences in our relationship with God.   As we continue our sermon series, "Summer on the Mount", we are reminded of some of these very real risks that exist in our moments of anger.  

I look forward to the opportunity to worship with you this coming Sunday.  I would ask that you join me in praying that God would break down our walls and allow us to take a real, honest, unfiltered look at our lives and the risks we might be taking with our anger.
